Benjamin Hammer, PharmD, BCPPS

Dr. Hammer is a Board Certified Pediatric Pharmacy Leader with over 10 years of experience in both the acute and ambulatory care spaces in several nationally ranked academic medical institutions. He started his career as an Infectious Diseases/Antimicrobial Stewardship Clinical Pharmacy Specialist followed by promotions into manager and director level opportunities. Prior to pharmacy, he had a career in the arts, which has enabled him to set himself apart both on paper and in practice. His unique background has lent itself to excelling in public speaking, leadership, and mentoring.

Dr. Hammer is currently the Manager of Ambulatory Pharmacy at Children’s National Hospital, a top 5 pediatric academic medical institution in Washington, DC. He oversees over 35+ outpatient facilities in both DC and VA as well a team of pharmacists and technicians providing outpatient services. He has also served as Clinical Pharmacy Manager as well as Residency Program Director (RPD) for both PGY1 and PGY2 (Pediatrics) programs. During his time served as RPD and Pharmacy Preceptor he has mentored over 50+ trainees toward attainment of their career goals.

Dr. Hammer received his Doctorate of Pharmacy from Mercer University in Atlanta, GA, interning throughout in both retail and inpatient pharmacy settings. He then pursued post-doctoral training at two American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited programs. He completed his PGY1 at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), and he went on the complete his PGY2 in Pediatrics at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy.

Benjamin’s interest in coaching stems from the joy he has found in leading his teams throughout his career. His pharmacists’ successes and helping them achieve their career goals has brought him the most joy and fulfilment thus far. He enjoys bringing a focus to both hard and soft skill sets as well as aiding in highlighting the uniqueness each mentee can bring to the opportunity at hand.
